1 November 1942

Yes, there are three envelopes for this date. The envelope postmarked at 5:30 PM was empty; one of the envelopes postmarked at 7:30 PM contained the blank sheet of stationery. The postcard was in the third envelope with the written letter. I guess Walt and Fields really were “lit up.”

A transcript follows the letter images.

Nov. 1, 1942.

I Love You,

My Dearest Ruth (Sweetheart).

I thot I would write you a few lines to let you know where I am (we—Fields and I) We tho’t we would live like Kings for one day. Ha.

As usual we got “lit up” last night on Tom Collin’s and my oh my—oh my. Every time we drank one we toasted to “A White Christmas.” I Love You.

That spot on the letter is a drop of Lime Rickey and Calverts Reserve—Ha.— We are in our room and using this pen for a “stirer upper.”

[unnumbered page 2]

I am not going to write much, just let you know—I am thinking of you—Love Me? Why sure.

We just drank a little toast to our (Sweethearts) I Love You.

Well Honey

I am going to go eat—So—

Good Afternoon Sweetheart

I Love You
