Note: I cut the date off in scanning, but looked at the original and it is fully on the letter. There were a few letters where the date was torn off when the paper was torn from a pad, but that’s not the case here.
More depression about that elusive captaincy for Walt.
He doesn’t seem to think it takes much skill to care for a baby, though, and thinks his sister-in-law will be as good as any incompetent person!

Hello Sweetheart
I Love You:—
If I can get started here I might possibly write you a letter. In fact If I don’t write you pretty soon you’ll probably disown me.
I’m rather down in the dumps tonight—Regan is going home very soon—Rule and Dean made their Cap’t’cy last night and I can’t even be put in for mine until another mos. passes.—Besides I’m not sure yet but I think I’m going to take a “rooking” in the Sqd. which will be no surprise to me.—Besides all that I’m minus the old friends I used to have the’re either home or home and besides all

that and more important I am lonely for my Sweetheart—I’m in bad shape am I not?—What to do, what to do? Reckon I’ll just go to sleep after while and wait until the morrow comes and see what happens then—At least that is the usual proceedure.
By the time you get this you’ll probably be a lady of leisure and letting some one else worry about working—I don’t blame you, If I was in your shoes I’d probably do the same.
So Ruby is getting restless is she—Well I guess that is natural—She probably can take care of the baby all right—At least I’ve seen some slightly incompetent

people get along with them some how—They seem to thrive on most anything.
Glad to hear our T-ville friends have gone to get a taste of Combat.—Garner must have improved considerably and is probably playing the Medics for aplenty.
You seem to be playing a lot of cards lately—Guess I’ll have to brush up.—
Think I’ll hang out my close on this line
Good Night Sweetheart
I Love You
